My Catapult

Here is my catapult When I was making my catapult I was going to use it to scare off cats and pukekos but it turned into a fun weapon so I practised and got pretty good at it so I decided to show you all my invention.

My Art Coloring Book

Above is the original painting and below is my recolored version of it.
I used a online coloring book called Online Art Coloring Book.
I did it as a practise for the Summer Learning Journey.

Can you keep a Secret

Once upon a time there were two wolf girls in a school of normal kids. Naturally the two wolf girls became friends immediately. The older of the girls, Sophie was 10. She had long red hair and black ears and her tail was also black but it had a white tip. She also had green eyes and light brown skin. Ariadne was younger at 9 years old and she had blue eyes, blonde hair and blue ears and tail. The girls had been friends since the first day of school.

One day they were playing on the playground, it was a hot day so they went to sit under a tree to cool down a little bit. After awhile of just sitting in silence Sophie broke it. She started talking about why the other girls kept staring at them. A few days later the school got a new student. She was different as well but she was a deer girl with soft brown antlers on the top of her head and a small white tail.

The new girl's name was Page. She was 11 years old, had jet black hair and light brown skin. The day after she arrived she came up to Sophie and Ariadne and asked to be their friend. Sophie and Ariadne were nice and said yes. Over the next few weeks Sophie and Ariadne got used to the presence of Page, little did they know Page had a dark secret that she didn’t want to share.

Sophie and Ariadne had noticed that their friend was acting strangely so they investigated. The next day Page was acting more strangely than usual so when in class they noticed Page’s antlers sifting from antlers to ears they started talking. When Page asked to go to the bathroom after waiting for Page to leave the room Sophie asked if she could go as well.

Sophie crept through the corridors to the bathroom where she heard       ‘’ arg why does this keep happening in school!’’. ‘’ why does what keep happening at school’’. Asked Sophie as she casually walked through the door.’’oh hello Sophie I didn’t expect to see you here’’ said Page tell me and Ariadne what is happening please, so next break the friends had an emergency meeting and this is what happened.

Page asked ‘’ can you keep a secret?’’ ‘’yes’’ said Sophie and Ariadne in unison. ‘’Ok I’m a shapeshifter!’’ Page blurted out. ‘’You're a what!’’ yeld Sophie.

My Speech

This is my Speech I made over the course of a few weeks.

What do you think of when you hear the word kiwi, do you think of the kiwi bird, kiwi fruit or the kiwi nation? Many nations have a national symbol. Australia has the kangaroo, England has the lion or the bulldog,

South Africa has the springbok and South america has the puma. Do you think that it’s ok in 2020 that the kiwi, our national symbol, is in danger of dying out? What comes next after endangered… extinction or growth?

Tena koutou - toku ingoa ko Pippa. I am here to tell you that it is not ok that some animals are endangered and to give you some ideas about how we can save them and our environment.

If you have seen or heard a kiwi in the wild, good for you, but I want future generations to see and hear them as well. Hundreds of years ago more than 12 million roamed Aotearoa. I would like to see that kiwi numbers are going up all over New Zealand, not just in the wild, predator free places where they live now. However the kiwis progress is being potentially disrupted by us humans because we are stealing the kiwis habitat.  A Kiwi’s habitat includes dense bush, mangroves, sand dunes and rough farmland. Soon they may have nowhere to live because greedy humans are flattening their land to build big cities

The kiwi is endangered, but not as critically as some animals, like the Maui dolphin. Some people might think ‘’Oh well, the kiwi is dying out, there is nothing we can do‘’. Well those people are wrong because there is something we can do. Make yourself a superhero by stopping littering, this will keep the planet clean and stop cluttering up the kiwi birds’ habitats. If we do that it will help all animals, not just the endangered ones, plus if we all work together we can save the planet at the same time. You can also save the kiwi bird no matter where you are by donating money and your time at kiwisforkiwi.org

I would like to see a kiwi bird for myself and I’ve found out that tawharanui regional park is the best place to do it because I live in Auckland. If I lived in the south Island I would go to Stewart Island. Habitat tours offer you a chance to see a kiwi bird for yourself. They take you at night because kiwis are nocturnal and it would cost you $130 per adult and  $60 per child, so $380 dollars for a family of four.

When I grow up I would like to be a vet that specialises in helping endangered animals. In 2040, when I’m 29, I hope that kiwi numbers have grown and they are no longer endangered so I won't have to help them as much. I wonder which animals I will be helping instead? Thank you for listening to my speech.

The Volcano Experiment

Have you ever made a volcano? Well I have and it was amazing!

Yesterday was Thursday the 15th of October and in the morning I came to school and greeted my teacher Mrs Kumar and my friends then Mrs Kumar said ‘’We are going to make a volcano‘’. My friends and I got very excited and couldn’t wait until 11:00 am because that was when we were going to do the experiment. When the first break had finished Mrs Kumar had rounded up the whole class she finally spilled the beans and told us the ingredients. The ingredients were (1) white vinegar (2) Baking soda and (3) food colouring.

By the time Mrs Kumar had finished telling us the ingredients it was 11:00am and time to do the experiment. I was so excited. Mrs Kumar told Room 8 to make a nice line so we could go outside. While Mrs Kumar went quickly to get the ingredients for the experiment all the kids started talking all at once and it got really noisy. Then Mrs Kumar got back. She shushed us quickly and we all went outside to do the experiment. We all crowded around Mrs Kumar to see what was going to happen.

First Mrs Kumar explained what she was going to do. Finally Mrs Kumar was putting in the ingredients first she put in the baking soda then the food colouring and last but not least the white vinegar. We all waited for what felt like an eternity and then … it exploded into blue foam. It was big bubbly blue foam. We all went wow even me! It was just like a volcano eruption and we all heard a fizzing sound. Once the foam had disappeared we went inside and we all were talking excitedly about the experiment. Then Mrs Kumar told us to go on our chromebook and do some planning. It felt like I had been to the moon and back because it was so much fun. Do you know why there was an eruption well if you don’t it’s because of a chemical reaction between the baking soda and the vinegar and it creates a gas called carbon dioxide. After the experiment I felt happy because I had never seen a volcano before in real life.

The Experment

 The Science Experiment!

 I felt like a scientist!

On the 2nd of September Mrs Kumar wrote on the board. She wrote        ‘’Science Experiment’’ it looked very interesting and dramatic. I was interested to see what would happen next but the bell rang so I had to run to the lines for assembly. When assembly was over Room 8 did fitness. In fitness we did some warm ups and then running. When we had finished fitness Room 8 went to class and Mrs Kumar announced we were going to do a science experiment after lunch. She also said that we had to make a hypothesis. A hypothesis is when you guess what is going to happen next.

When I had just finished my hypothesis the bell rang for the first break. I was relieved but also very excited for the science experiment. The break seemed to last forever and when the bell finally rang I ran as fast as I could so I could be first in the line. I wasn't the first in the line but second, so I was pleased. When we got to class I sat down eagerly. Ms Lammas and Ms Jasmine went to get the hot and cold water. While they were doing that Mrs Kumar let us know that the hot water was going to be very hot.

When Miss Lammas and Miss Jasmine got back from getting the water and sugar Mrs Kumar had already set up a table for the water and sugar to go on. Miss Lammas and Miss Jasmine had half filled the glasses of water. We used brown sugar not white sugar. Mrs Kumar had made labels for the glasses so A was hot water and B was cold water. Finally it was time to do the achel experiment and Mrs Kumar chose 4 people to help with the experiment. Mason and Dani got to sture the water and Jessie and Jessica got to put the sugar in the cups.

My Weekend

My Weekend!

On the weekend Me and my family were excited to do trick or treating even if it wasn't the normal trick or treating. This year we were doing something different in that my brother and I were going to follow clues to find the candy. For most of the day Toby my dad and I were working on a fence but sometimes Toby and I drifted off and started doing other things.

Toby was painting his skimboard  and I was flattening wire for fun. Toby has an old skimboard and it has scratched paint so he decided to give it a lick of paint because he loves skimboarding and didn’t want to buy a new one. Finally it was dinner time and we had Roast chicken with vegetables and  gravy. Once we had all finished our dinner Toby and I went to my Mum and Dad’s room to wait for them to hide the chocolate.

I was so excited. Then my mum and dad came in and told us to come in the front room where Toby and I sat on the couch and listened to the clues. By the time we were on the 5th clue we got stuck the clue was ‘’I am not quite as hot as the flames of hell’’. In the end we skipped that clue and went onto the next clue. The clues after that were easier but we stopped again when we were on the last two clues. By that time I had had enuf thinking

Pam Pam

 PAM PAM

One day a cow named Pam Pam was walking around when  frog her friend asked her whether she would like to sit on his log and play in the bog. ‘’No thanks’’ said pam pam and she keeped on walking.

Next she saw drake and drake asked ‘’ would you like to swim in my lake and have a piece of my cake’’. ‘’No thanks, Drake and she keeped walking.

Soon she came across a goat wearing a coat. The goat asked whether she would like to have a ride in his boat. ‘’No thanks goat’’ said

Pam Pam and she keeped on walking.

Next was a cat wearing a hat and playing with a bat not a (real bat mind you). The cat asked pam pam whether she wanted to play with her bat. Pam Pam said ‘’no thank you cat’’ and she keeped on walking.

After that she came across a pig wearing a wig and doing a jig. the pig  asked Pam Pam whether she wanted to do a jig Pam Pam said ‘’ no but I will wear your wig’’ of course the pig said ‘’yes’’ and Pam pam walked away. She went past the cat and asked whether she could wear his hat and the cat said yes.

She passed the goat and the and she asked whether she could wear his coat and he said yes. Next she came across drake again and she asked him whether she could have a slice of his cake and he said yes so Pam Pam keeped on walking.

Finally she found frog and asked whether she could sit on his log and he said yes. So Pam Pam sat on the log with her cake, coat, cap and wig and enjoyed the slice of cake.

The Bounce Castle

On the first day of school 4th of February 2020,everyone came,we all went to our new classes and did the roll. Then we went to the Bounce castle and then we jumped really high and we also did some back flips and some cart wheels. It was really fun to see my friends having fun. All of my friends did really cool tricks. Then we went to the park. It was Fabulous and very fun. All my friends did a very fabulous flips. We all had so much fun. The bounce castle also looked like The Lion king because there were animals on it like the same animals on The Lion king.

The Bounce castle was planned by Mr Hendricks and all the other teachers. At the end we were all tired from the Bounce castle. We all went to have a drink of water. The water was very cold. Mrs Lamis was there as well to see us jump. We went after Room 1. The first class that went was room 11.

We went till 9:15 to 10:10. When we saw room 1 tired,I thought I was going to get tired and I did. But it was really fun as well. Mrs Lammas was so proud to see everyone in school uniform and everyone in our class here on the first day,but 1 person didn’t wear the school uniform and 1 that didn’t come to school. Even our teacher was proud of us having nearly the whole class here and nearly everyone in school uniform.

The Bounce castle was giant and spectacula. We all went on The Bounce castle 5 by 5 but at the end we all went on at the same time. But we had to remember to take off our shoes and when it was the end we put back our shoes and then we lined up. When everyone came to school they all looked very smart with their new things.

I liked everyone’s new things and I liked faith’s one the best because her bag is a suitcase and it is very cute because it is smiggles and it has some unicorns and it smelled very nice. I felt very smart to come to school and to learn new things.

Maori Language Week

During this week I worked with Loise and Junier from my class we were pretending to be mini teachers so we had to make activities for apretend class. It was fun working with others. It as a lot more fun than doing it on my own. I helped making one of the slides and I did one on my own. I was half way thue making one when we had to stop and I had to delete it so I didn't get in troublele.

My Tongan Flag

This is the Tongan flag. The reason I made the flag is because it is Tongan language week.  I made it with Angelina and Jessica from my class. We used google drawing to make the shapes. The red in the Tongan flag means sacrifice to Christ. The white on the Tongan flag represents purity.

My New Zealand T-Shirt

This is my t-shirt. I made it on the 1st,2nd and 3rd of September. Room 8 did it for the fun and the learning. Mrs Kumar and the teacher aides Miss Jasmine and Mrs Lammas decided that there would be a competition and whoever won would get the t-shirt printed into a real shirt!

My Face Mask

Why wearing a mask is important

Wearing a mask is important because one it stops germs from going more than 6 cm from you but if you accidentally swap masks with someone then it could end in disaster. In saying that it is still a good idea to wear one because it slows the spread of covid 19. Wearing a mask is good for lots of things but if it is made of cotton it will need to to be washed daily so you will need to have a few masks. I think that cotton masks are better because if you have single use masks you have to have lots and lots but if you have a cotton one then you only need 2 or 3 plus you can make them at home!

Cook Island Language Week

It was fun learning Cook Island words!

On the Monday of the third week of term 3 I was sitting in the classroom reading before school when Mrs Kumar came in and said ‘’ Today it is the start of Cook Island language week. ‘’ Then I stopped reading and started to talk to Mrs Kumar after a little while I got bored and went outside to play on the playground when the bell rang and I ran to the line. I was first in the line so I was happy.

Mr Hendricks came from the office and started talking about how all the classrooms had a tight schedule, then he stopped mid sentence and sent two seaniars on a run to the two rubey posts on the field. One of the people was a girl and she went running and the other was a boy and he walked.

When the assembly was over room ten was sent first because they had special maths to go too. Room 11 had left earlier in the assembly but I didn’t know why. When it was time for room 8 to go Mrs Kumar said we were going to do fitness so we all went running around the curt.

When we were on the second round of running it started to rain just a little but just enuff to be annoying. Mrs Kumar called us all into the girls and boys lines so we could go back to class. In class we all sat on the floor when Mrs Kumar said “ all the boys in the front and all the girls at the back” because all the boys liked to sit at the back and the girls in the front.

Then Mrs Kumar Casted on the TV so she could teach us how to have a conversation in Cook Island. Some of the words were Kia Orana ( Hello), Pe’ea Koe? ( How Are You?), Meitaki au ( I am fine) and Akape’ea koe ( how about you?). The next day at morning assembly Mr Nido greeted us all in Cook Island and we had to reply in Cook Island.

Finally we got to go back to class because Mr Nido had made us talk to each other in Cook Island. When we got in class we all sat down on the mat ( girls at the back and boys in the front).and watched another video and learned how to say goodbye. The person who started the conversation would say Aere ra and the other person would say Eno’ ora. (  both words have the same meaning.) I felt so proud of myself for learning Cook Island Language.

Matariki Celebration

Matariki Celebration

Matariki is so intriguing.

At Glen Innes School it was the first Friday of the term three and we were going to have a celebration. The celebration was about Matariki and stars. The Matariki is a cluster not a constellation. The Matariki is a group of 7 stars and in the past people used them to guide them. Room 8 had a song about the Matariki stars and we also had some moves. Do you know the dance moves to the song macarena? Because those were the moves!

The song went like Witi, Wita, Waipuna Rangi, Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Ururangi, Matariki. After the third break we were going to go around the classes and look at their art. The art Room 8 had made were some wishing stars and a map of the stars. When we went to Room 11 I was breath taken, the art was beautiful. I love Room 2 and 3’s art. It was so neat for 5 and 6 year olds.

After we had been to all the classes we went to the hall to have the hangi. All the classes were in their own circles. One by one the classes went up the kitchen to get their hangi, when it was Room 8’s turn we went up to get our meal. The hangi  was in a small square box. When we sat down again I opened the box and inside was some chicken, caret, komera, pumpkin, peas, a pea pod and some potato. I ate the chicken, the chicken was sooo good (yum).

After that we all went out to play. I was nervous because I had to perform in front of the whole school. When I was playing I was called to get ready for the performance. I had to get my poi and rako, when the kapa haka group were all set we warmed up our voices and went over all the things we were going to sing while everyone came in. When everyone was settled Mr Hendriks announced that ‘’the Kapa Haka group is going to perform’’, so we started. We did five songs in all and I had messed up in one of the songs.

When we went backstage we put our shoes and socks on and went out the back door so we went in the main entrance, one of the kids in my class wondered how we got back in line so fast. I felt so proud of myself!

A Scary Story

Pippa - A cold Nightmare

How Are Icicles Formed? | Wonderopolis

One cold morning in the middle of winter a girl was walking to school when she heard a ghostly sound but she just thought that it was the wind. It was only three degrees when the girl was walking to school but that did not stop her. She didn’t even think that the sound was a ghost with a hungry skeleton wolf by his side. When she got closer to the school she stopped she had seen something in the shadows of a big oak tree it looked like a person but when it stepped out into the light the girl was sure it was a ghost she screamed then she turned in the other direction and ran as fast as her legs could carry her and as she ran she heard the ghost say go to his wolf and her the clatter  of the wolfs bones as it ran. The wolf was faster than her and it caught up fast. It bit into her leg but she did not slow down. She came into a field. The grass was slippery from frost and the girl was getting very warm from all the running but then she woke up sweating in her bed. It was 3 in the morning but she was safe and well.

My Face Mask

I made a face mask out of a paper towel that was fun!

On Monday the 25th of May, 2020 I made a Paper Towel mask. A mask is something people wear to protect themselves from diseases like COVID - 19. Mrs. Kumar, our teacher, showed us how to make one and we made one ourselves.

You can make a paper mask if you have these things: a stapler, 2 rubber bands, and a paper towel. To make it you need to fold the paper towel like a fan then once you have finished that then you fold the ends of the paper towel over a little then you put one of the rubber bands under the fold and staple it closed. Do that to the other side and open up your mask.
I wore it and it was way too tight because the paper towel and the rubber bands were too small. I was amazed at how I had made a face mask out of just a piece of paper towel. It was amazing!

I took a picture of me wearing the mask. Before we made the mask I was wondering how we would make just a small paper towel into a mask and when we made it felt so obvious. I felt proud and happy about making my own face mask.

Life in lock down

The lockdown was so scary!

Lockdown is a state of isolation or restricted access instituted as a security measure. New Zealand was put under level 4 lockdown on the 26th of March 2020. New Zealand went into lockdown because of COVID-19. Another name for COVID-19 is coronavirus.COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. 'CO' stands for corona, 'VI' for virus, and 'D' for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as '2019 novel coronavirus' or '2019-nCoV. The government  came up with four levels. Level 4 was the most strict and 1 is the least strict. About 2,800,000,000 people are infected with covid-19 in the world.

In level 4 only essential workers like factory workers, aged care workers, doctors, police officers, firefighters, St Johns  and  the rescue workers  and nurses were allowed to continue work,  but only if they follow a strict set of rules set by the government If they don’t follow the rules they were not allowed to work. These people were allowed to work because they were needed to keep the community safe.

The people that aren't allowed to work are called non essential workers. Some examples of non essential workers are teachers, takeaway workers, dental people, construction workers, shop owners and so on. These people weren’t urgently needed, not like the essential workers.  The reason that unessential workers are not working is so that people don’t get too close to each other and pass on the virus to others. We didn’t want people to get sick.

At home in level 4 lockdown it was hard but also fun. The fun bit was I got to be with my family and do quality family things like going on bike rides and playing games. The games we like to play are chocolate ludo, Ono and monopoly. I also liked ironing and getting out the sewing machine. I learnt how to sew and made little sleeping bags for my toy animals. I slept in a tent in the backyard too. It was very dark and cold in the tent and sometimes I found it scary. But overall I found it more fun

Anzac Day

5 things I have learnt about ANZAC Day:

1. I learnt that the first world war started in 1914 and ended in 1918.
2. I did not know that Australia was under the control of the british for 13 years.
3.I never knew that New Zealand had been under the control of the british for 7 years
4.I learnt that the New Zealand and Australia had a volunteer fighting force.
5. I never knew that the battle of New Zealand, Ottoman and turkish started on the 25 of april.

My lockdown bubble

In lockdown it has been boring, but it can also be fun, but mostly boring. When it was the holidays my family and I put up a tent outside in the back garden. My brother and I got to sleep in it all by ourselves. We had three nights each. We went separately so we did not fight. On the first night it was scary because it was so dark, but it was also so much fun. I wanted to do it again and again and I did.

On another day in the holidays my dad got out an old sewing machine and we used it to make mini sleeping bags. We made the sleeping bags out of old cloth.

When it was nice and warm outside we went on a bike ride. Toby is fast and I am learning to ride with no hands. We also stopped at the park and kicked a ball around. Sometimes me and my brother raced to get the ball, which was so much fun but my brother won most of the time. In my bubble is me, my Mum, Dad and my brother Toby. I wish I had my cousins, Rebecca and Chatti in my bubble, but that would be hard because they live in England, all the way on the other side of the world.

National Treasures (Summer Learning Journey)

The three things that mean the most to me are

1) Scruffy the stuffed toy I have had forever. He means a lot to me because he makes me feel happy.

2) My family because they help me with things I find difficult. They tell me off when I do something wrong which helps me learn right and wrong.

3) My cat, Nibbler (I have had her forever too.) I like her sleeping next to me because she keeps me company.

Team players (Summer Learning Journey)

The three superpowers I want are

1) The capability to speak to and understand animals. I hope to be a vet when I'm older and this superpower will be very useful, so I can ask them whether they're are in pain.

2) I would like to be able to do magic to be like Harry Potter. The first spell I would use is Expelliarmus - the disarming charm.

3) I would like to be able to become invisible so I can watch animals in their natural habitat without them knowing I was there.

Discovering Aotearoa (Summer Learning Journey)

I created a pepeha in class last term. I took a screen shot of it.

My Mum and Dad come from England but me and my brother Toby were born in New Zealand.

It' s important to me to go to England to see the rest of my family, my family mean the world to me. I enjoy being in their company. I like cooking with my dad. We go fishing and sea biscuiting on our boat as a family. We speak English.

Summer Learning Journey - Tiny Houses

I would like to live in a tiny house because
1. They look very cosy.
2. You can move it around.
3. It is small.

Some downsides of living in a small house is you can't have a big family and you can't have your family members over to stay.

Summer Learning Journey Activity 1 Day 1

Setting Sail

On my journey I would take
Dried fruit (Apricots and raisins are my favourites)
Nuts and seeds will give me nutrients to keep my body healthy.
Smoked and salted meats and fish will give me protein.
Fresh water you can't survive without it.
Corn chips - they are yummy and I can eat them with the smoked or salted meats/fish.
Fruits. I would choose oranges and mandarins because they will give me vitamins and the juice will keep me hydrated.
Coconuts because they keep for a long time and you can use the shell as a cup.
Vegetables are good for you and u can eat them raw. My favourites are carrots, cucumber and capsium.
Honey, a sweet treat.
Olives are one of my favorite things to eat and they keep for a long time.
